Im Juli 1944 trafen sich Delegierte aus 44 Nationen im amerikanischen Bretton Woods, um ein neues internationales W\u00e4hrungssystem zu begr\u00fcnden. Die Vereinbarung koppelte W\u00e4hrungen an den US-Dollar, der wiederum durch Gold gedeckt war \u2013 mit dem Ziel globaler Finanzstabilit\u00e4t. Doch 1971 wurde die Goldbindung des Dollars aufgehoben.
